Antique Daguerreotype Photo In Case (1900)
Antique Daguerreotype Photo In Case (1900)
Antique Daguerreotype Tin Photo In Case
Daguerreotypes have a very magical presence due to the technique and material employed- a thin, reactive layer of silver is applied to a copper sheet and polished until it glows with a mirror like shine, which is then exposed and developed as a single, unique direct positive print. With no film negative, this image can never be reproduced exactly as he is! This photo is just about as unique as the person it depicts: one of a kind and full of secrets and stories. This portrait is nestled into an embossed leather keepsake frame with a latch.
Vintage Photo in Frame is enclosed in a functional latch to create a locket like square frame container. The sixteenth plate tintype is housed in a wood and leatherette full case. The cased tintype measures about 3 1/2" tall by 2 1/2" wide and 1/2" deep.
Estimated 1900
